MachineMetrics Current Shift Dashboard views provide a real-time visual representation of the machines on your shop floor in terms of status, performance and part production data for the current shift as of the time of viewing. With even a quick glance, the Current Shift Dashboard views provide a lot of information about the machines in your MachineMetrics environment.
This article explains how information is laid out in the various Current Shift Dashboard views, how to interpret what you are seeing in each dashboard view, and how to use the capabilities and functionality available in each view.

Current Shift Dashboard Views
The Current Shift Dashboard views available in MachineMetrics include:
- Parts Goal: Shows the machine status, performance, and parts produced each hour compared to the parts goal for the Job on the machine.
- OEE: Shows the machine status, performance, and parts produced each hour compared to the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) goal for the Job on the machine.
- Utilization: Shows the status and performance of machines compared to the utilization goal for the machine.
- Downtime: Shows the current status of the machine in terms of whether the machine is down (idle or stopped) or up (actively processing parts).
The following figure shows an example of the Parts Goal view of the Current Shift Dashboard.
Accessing the Current Shift Dashboard Views
One of the Current Shift Dashboard views will automatically display when you initially login to MachineMetrics. Which dashboard displays is determined by the default setting in the Dashboards section of the System Settings page. To access any of the other Current Shift Dashboard views from the default Current Shift Dashboard page, click the name of the dashboard (in the top right of the window) to display the dashboard pull-down menu, and click the name of the desired dashboard view.
Filtering the Current Shift Dashboard View
By default, the Current Shift Dashboard views show all machine workcenters in the environment. You can filter the Current Shift Dashboard views by machine group. To do this, click the All Workcenters pull-down menu and select the group name you want to view.
Current Shift Dashboard Expanded View
The Current Shift Dashboard includes an expanded view capability that is useful if you are projecting the dashboard onto a large screen or just want a broad overview of the machine performance in your environment.
Expanding the Dashboard View
To expand the Current Shift Dashboard view, click the expansion arrows at the bottom right corner of the dashboard (highlighted below). Note that these arrows do not move as you scroll up and down the dashboard:
The view will expand to fill the browser window:
Returning to Normal Dashboard View
Click the view collapse arrows at the bottom right of the expanded view screen (highlighted above) to return to the normal view.
Current Shift Dashboard Information Layout
In the MachineMetrics Current Shift Dashboard views, each machine is represented by a "tile" graphic. In most dashboard views, these machine tiles provide information on the machine's operating status, performance, and hourly part production or utilization. The following is an example of a machine tile from the Parts Goal view of the Current Shift Dashboard.
The information layouts of the machine tiles in the OEE and Utilization dashboard views are very similar to the Parts Goal example above, while the Downtime dashboard has some minor differences as shown in the following figure.
Parts Goal/OEE/Utilization Views
As described in the information layout section, the machine tiles in the Parts Goal, OEE, and Utilization views are divided into three sections:
- Machine Operating Status
- Machine Performance
- Parts Produced or Utilization by Hour
This section explains the information and visual indicators that MachineMetrics provides in each of these machine tile sections which enable you to quickly understand the current condition of the machines in your environment.
Machine Operating Status
In the Current Shift Dashboard views for Parts Goal, OEE, and Utilization, the operating status section of each machine tile displays text indicating the machine name, the current machine operating status, and the amount of time that the machine has been in the current status. The current operating status of the machine is also visually indicated by the color of the tile.
The possible machine operating statuses (and corresponding color codes) in the Parts Goal, OEE, and Utilization views of the Current Shift Dashboard views include:
- Active (Green): Machine is actively processing parts.
- Idle (Blue): Machine is functioning properly but is not processing parts.
- Setup (Yellow): Machine is in Setup stage in MachineMetrics.
- Not Reported (Grey): Machine is not responding to MachineMetrics communications.
- Error (Red): There is an active alarm on this Machine.
The following figure shows examples of the operating status section of a machine tile at each different operating status.
The performance section of the machine tile provides the current performance percentage and visual indicators that indicate how the machine is currently performing compared to the goal that the view presents (Parts Goal, OEE, or Utilization).
Machine Performance Goal Settings
System-wide machine performance goals for Parts Goal, OEE, and Utilization are set in the Dashboards section of the System Settings page. Job-specific performance goals for Parts Goal performance can also be specified in the Job settings. Machine-specific goals for Utilization performance can be set in the Workcenter settings.
Machine Performance Color Indicators
The background color of the performance section of the machine tile will change color depending on how the machine is performing in comparison to the performance goal. The performance section background colors and their meaning are as follows:
- Green (Goal): Machine is operating at or above the performance goal for the current shift.
- Orange (Warning): Machine is operating below the performance goal for the current shift but above the failure threshold. Machine may not meet the performance goal.
- Red (Failure): Machine is operating below the performance goal and below the performance warning threshold for the current shift. Machine most likely will not meet the performance goal. In the Utilization view, this color may also mean only that the machine is not in use.
- Grey (No Job): No Job has been assigned/started in MachineMetrics for the shift. This color is used in the Parts Goal and OEE views but not in the Utilization view.

Additional Performance View Functions
If you hover over the Parts Goal/Parts portion of the performance section, the tile will change to show the number of parts that were expected at the current moment and how many were produced:
If you click anywhere on the performance area, the tile will change to allow you access to other tools, as shown in the following figure:
Parts Produced and Utilization by Hour
The parts produced/utilization by hour section of the machine tile displays a bar graph where a bar will appear for each hour covered by the current shift where machine activity has occurred. No bars will appear if no activity has occurred in the hour that passed. In the Parts Goal and OEE views, hovering over a bar will display the hour represented by the bar and the number of parts produced in that hour. In the Utilization view, hovering over a bar will display the hour and the percentage of utilization for that hour. The hourly bar graph and shift time frame are updated after the hour/shift has passed.
Parts Goal and OEE Views / Parts Produced By Hour
The following figure shows an example of the parts produced bar graph that displays in the OEE view, which is the same as the graph that displays in the Parts Goal view.
Utilization View / Utilization By Hour
The following figure shows an example of the utilization by hour bar graph that displays in the Utilization view.
The Downtime of the Current Shift Dashboard view provides the following information:
- Whether the machine is in-cycle or out-of-cycle
- The machine operating status and how long the machine has been in that status
- If the machine is in-cycle, the percentage of the current shift that the machine has been in-cycle
- If the machine is out-of-cycle, the amount of time the machine has been out of cycle

Machine Operating Statuses in Downtime View
The possible operating statuses in the Downtime view are the same as for the other dashboard views:
- Not Reported
- Error (varies by condition/event)
However, the color scheme is simplified in the Downtime view compared to the Part Goal and other views. In the Downtime view, the following status and color code is used:
- Green: Machine is in cycle (active) and at Active or Setup operating status.
- Orange: Machine has been out of cycle (inactive) and at an operating status of Idle, Not Reported or in an error condition for less time than the Downtime Goal setting.
- Red: Machine has been out of cycle (inactive) and at an operating status of Idle, Not Reported or in an error condition for more time than the Downtime Goal setting.
Default Downtime Goal Setting
The Downtime Goal setting for each machine is found in the Workcenter dialog that is accessed by clicking on a machine entry in the Workcenters page. If the Downtime Goal setting is not changed, the default setting is 5 minutes of downtime. This means that by default, a machine tile in the Downtime view will turn orange immediately after a machine goes inactive, and red after the machine has been inactive for more than 5 minutes.
