Introduction

The ability to create a hierarchy for rejected parts with Parent reasons followed by Subcategories allows more granularity in reporting rejected parts. This article explores where you can set these up and how they will appear in the Operator Dashboard.

Adding A Reject Reason Hierarchy

First, navigate to Settings and select System.  Under Reject Reasons, you will be able to manage the parent and subcategories for rejected parts as shown below.

If you choose Add Reason, you will be able to add more reasons using the parent | subcategory format.  You also have the option to dictate the Behavior when this category is selected.

You will notice the separation of the parent and subcategory by a pipe (|), which associates the parent category with the subcategory(s), for example:  Dimensional | Out of Specification.  You can create any number of subcategories under each parent category, but each will require its own Reject Reason be added as an individual entry. To use the pipe (|), find it on the key with the backslash (\) on your keyboard. 

Adding multiple layers within your hierarchy 

In order to add multiple layers to your hierarchy, you can use the same structure and add additional subcategories. For example, you could use the following structure to create multiple layers in your hierarchy: 

Out of Specification | Groove | Diameter Big

Out of Specification | Groove | Diameter Small

Out of Specification | Drill | Hole Size Big

Out of Specification | Drill | Hole Size Small

The above would list Out of Specification as the parent category with second layer sub-categories Groove and Drill, and third-level sub-categories Diameter Big, Diameter Small, Hole Size Big, and Hole Size Small for each of the second layer sub-categories. 

Using the Hierarchy of Reject Reasons in the Operator Dashboard 

If parts need to be rejected for any reason, start by selecting Reject Part in the lower middle of the Operator Dashboard.  Then you will be presented with a screen to choose the reason for the rejected part(s).

After you select Reject Parts you will be prompted to choose how many parts to reject.  The following screen will enable you to select a category and optional subcategory for the reject, as shown below.

After selecting the categories, you can choose if the reject is considered Scrap or Non-Conforming.  You will also be able to add additional notes before submitting the rejected parts.

The option to use a hierarchical order for rejected parts allows for more fine-tuned information which will also be represented in reports.  For example:  Rather than a one-layer categorization like Dimensional, parts that fit into this category can be further detailed using the subcategories. 

The Parts Report will reflect this, which can be used to see trends in rejected parts. For more information on the Parts Report, click here.
