ShopPulse is the operator-facing interface used to view real-time production data on the shop floor. It can be accessed through multiple supported methods depending on the device and use case.
On iOS devices, ShopPulse is accessed using the MachineMetrics Progressive Web App (PWA).
On Android tablets, the PWA continues to be supported. If ShopPulse is already installed on an Android tablet using the PWA, no change is required.
For new Android tablet setups, the ShopPulse Android app is the preferred option for always-on display and kiosk use. The Progressive Web App (PWA) remains supported as an alternative on Android.
This article explains how to provision a tablet using the Progressive Web App and when the PWA is the appropriate option.
⚠️ Important
The Progressive Web App replaces the earlier QR-based tablet setup method, where scanning a QR code on a new or factory-reset tablet automatically installed software, applied kiosk controls, and prepared the device for use with MachineMetrics.
That earlier QR-based tablet setup method has been deprecated.
If you are provisioning an iOS device, the PWA is required.
If you are provisioning a new Android tablet, the ShopPulse Android app is recommended.
Platform Support
| Platform | Supported Method |
|---|---|
| Android | ShopPulse Android App (preferred for new setups) |
| Android | Progressive Web App (PWA) |
| iOS | Progressive Web App (PWA) |
How the PWA Works
The MachineMetrics Progressive Web App is installed directly from a dedicated MachineMetrics link.
Once installed:
The Operator Dashboard opens in its own standalone app window
Wake Lock helps keep the screen active while the app is in use
The device is authorized and associated with your MachineMetrics account
IT teams may optionally manage the app using an MDM solution
4. How to Provision Using the PWA
⚠️ Key Point
Provisioning must begin on a device or browser session that is not already logged into MachineMetrics.
Device Preparation
On a computer, log out of any MachineMetrics sessions before starting
On a tablet, starting from a factory reset is recommended for a clean setup
Ensure the device operating system and browser are fully up to date
Step 1: Open the PWA Link
Standard Cloud: https://operator.machinemetrics.com/pwa
Step 2: Install
Select Install when prompted by the browser to add the MachineMetrics Operator Dashboard PWA.
Accept your browser’s install confirmation to add the MachineMetrics Operator Dashboard PWA.
Step 3: Authorize
After installation:
Log in with your credentials (Email/Password, Google, or SSO).
For shared or kiosk devices (tablets at a machine), select Authorize Device instead.
You’ll receive a 4-character code.
⚠️ Enter this code at the following URL on another device other than the tablet being set up to complete authorization:
Standard Customers: https://app.machinemetrics.com/app/tablet
GovCloud Customers: https://app.machinemetrics-us-gov.com/app/tablet
Tips & Best Practices
Use Google Chrome for PWA installation
Perform a factory reset if the tablet was previously set up using the deprecated QR-based method
If using MDM, deploy updates after the app has been provisioned
Keep at least one spare device available for provisioning if possible
FAQs & Troubleshooting
Q: Do I need Mobile Device Management (MDM) to use the PWA?
A: No. MDM is optional. The PWA can be installed and used on individual devices without centralized management.Q: The tablet already has MachineMetrics logged in. What should I do?
A: Log out first. If the tablet was previously set up using the deprecated QR-based method, perform a factory reset before provisioning with the PWA.Q: The screen keeps turning off.
A: Wake Lock is enabled once you interact with the PWA. Confirm you have tapped inside the app after launch and that device-level power settings are not overriding screen behavior.Q: I see an error saying “ShopPulse is already installed.”
A: This usually means the tablet operating system or Google Chrome is out of date. Update the tablet OS and Chrome, then try again. If the issue persists on an Android tablet, you can install the ShopPulse Android app instead.Q: Can I still use the old QR-based tablet setup method?
A: No. The QR-based tablet setup method has been fully deprecated.
