The Bulk Machine Configurator allows authorized users to copy machine connection configurations from one machine to multiple target machines in a single operation. This capability helps reduce repetitive setup work, improve consistency across machine configurations, and minimize configuration drift when onboarding or updating multiple machines.
This feature is intended for customers responsible for managing machine connectivity and data collection across multiple assets.

What Can Be Copied
The Bulk Machine Configurator supports copying the following configuration elements from a source machine.
Adapter Script
The adapter script defines how MachineMetrics connects to a machine and collects data. This includes:
Data collection logic and transformations
Data collection settings
Data Mapping Fields
Data mapping fields define how collected data is structured and displayed within MachineMetrics. This includes:
Component assignments
Data types and display names
The Copy Workflow
Step 1: Select Data Source
Select the connection method, also referred to as the data source, to copy from the source machine.
A machine may have multiple data sources available.
If the machine has only one data source, it is automatically selected.
Step 2: Select What to Copy
Choose which configuration elements to copy from the selected data source.
You may review the adapter script before copying.
Select whether to copy the adapter script, data mappings, or both.
Choose which data item mappings to copy. Use search and filters to find specific items quickly.
- Search: Filter by item name
- Component filter: Show only items for a specific component
- Select all/none: Bulk select options
- Individual selection: Check specific items to copy
Step 3: Select Target Machines
Select one or more machines to receive the copied configuration.
Filtering and validation options include:
Search: Filter machines by name.
Connection validation: The system verifies whether each target machine has a matching data source.
Each target machine will display one of the following statuses:
Create New
The target machine does not currently have this data collection method. A new configuration will be created.
You must enter a Connection String before executing the copy operation.Update Existing
The target machine already has this data collection method. The existing configuration will be updated.
⚠️ Important
Any existing adapter script on a target machine will be overwritten by this operation. This action cannot be undone.
Step 4: Execute and Review
Execute the copy operation and review the results for each target machine.
Results include:
Config status: Success or error message for the adapter script copy
Mapping status: Success or error message for data mapping updates
Connection strings: Updated or newly applied values per machine
After reviewing results, select Start New Copy to begin another operation if needed.
Tips and Best Practices
Confirm that the source machine configuration reflects the desired standard before copying.
Review adapter scripts prior to execution, especially when updating existing configurations.
Use search and filter tools when selecting data mappings to avoid copying unnecessary fields.
Verify connection strings in advance for machines that require new configurations.
FAQs
Will this affect machines that are already collecting data?
Yes. When updating an existing configuration, the adapter script will be replaced. Data mappings will be updated based on the selected options.
Can a copy operation be undone?
No. Once executed, configuration changes cannot be automatically reverted.
Do all target machines need the same connection method?
Yes. Each target machine must support the selected data source for the operation to proceed.
