Operator Dashboard - Custom Tabs

Introduction:

Custom Tabs can be added to the Operator Dashboard. This allows users to display certain websites, web apps, or media such as documents or videos from MachineMetrics tablets or kiosks.

Restrictions & Security Notes

• Adblockers can block iframes! If your Custom Tab isn't working, try disabling it for the Operator Dashboard
• Any website that does not allow itself to be displayed within an iframe will not work within Custom Tabs.
• Publicly sharing any documents should be done with caution as, without proper security and access restrictions, shared documents may be accessible by anyone on the internet.

Create a Form

Enable your operators or anyone else using the Operator Dashboard to submit data through a Google Form.

To use this functionality, the tablet or kiosk you're running the MachineMetrics Operator Dashboard on must be logged in to a Google account that has access to the forum you'd like to display.

1. Navigate to https://docs.google.com/forms.

2. Select a Blank form or a template from the Start a new form section.

3. Create your form. Google has documentation for more detailed instructions on designing the form itself.

4. When your form is read, click the Send button at the top right.

5. In the pop-up, navigate to the Embed tab.

6. From the Embed HTML field, copy the URL with the first set of parenthesis.

7. Navigate to app.machinemetrics.com.

8. At the top right of the screen, click the settings gear icon, then select Operator Dashboard from the drop-down

9. Scroll down to the Manage Tabs section and then click the Add Tab button.

10. Enter a name of your choice into the name field. This will be what the tab is labeled as in the Operator Dashboard. Then paste the modified URL into the URL field and press the Save Changes button.

You can now submit your form via the Operator Dashboard!

Show a CNC Calculator Website

In this example, we'll add a CNC calculator as a Custom Tab. Many websites can be embedded this way, while others might block the technology Custom Tabs use. This is ultimately up to the individual website.

1. Navigate to app.machinemetrics.com.

2. At the top right of the screen, click the gear icon, then select Operator Dashboard from the drop-down.

3. Scroll down to the Manage Tabs section and then click the Add Tab button.

4. Enter a name of your choice into the name field. This will be what the tab is labeled as in the Operator Dashboard. Then paste "https://app.fswizard.com/#/" into the URL field and press the Save Changes button.

Open the Operator Dashboard to see your new tab! If you already had the Operator Dashboard open, you may need to refresh it.

Displaying a Document from Google Drive

This is the preferred method for displaying documents on the Operator Dashboard via Google Drive.

1. The document must have link restrictions set to the same organization/group as the Google login used for the Operator Dashboard.

If you are not using Google to log in, then the file must be set to "Anyone with the link." to be viewable. It is not recommended to put sensitive or proprietary data in a file shared this way.

2. To generate an embed link, navigate to the file you'd like to display in Google Drive and double-click on it.

3. Select the 3-dot menu in the top right and select “Open in new window.”

4. In the newly opened window, select the 3-dot menu and select “Embed item.”

5. Copy the portion of the HTML between the first quotation marks. See below.

6. Navigate to app.machinemetrics.com.

7. At the top right of the screen, click the gear icon, then select Operator Dashboard from the drop-down

8. Scroll down to the Manage Tabs section and then click the Add Tab button.

9. Enter a name of your choice into the name field. This will be what the tab is labeled as in the Operator Dashboard. Then paste the URL you copied into the URL field and press the Save Changes button.

Open the Operator Dashboard to see your new tab! If you already had the Operator Dashboard open, you may need to refresh it.

Embedding a Trello Board

A read-only Trello Board can be added to a custom tab on the Operator Dashboard.

1. Navigate to the Trello Board you would like to display, then copy the URL

2. Modify the URL by removing all text after the last forward slash as well as the forward slash itself. Then, add ".html" to the end.

3. Navigate to app.machinemetrics.com.

4. At the top right of the screen, click the gear icon, then select Operator Dashboard from the drop-down

5. Scroll down to the Manage Tabs section and then click the Add Tab button.

6. Enter a name of your choice into the name field. This will be what the tab is labeled as in the Operator Dashboard. Then paste the modified URL into the URL field and press the Save Changes button.

Your new tab should show your Trello Board!
