Baselining is an important step in the implementation of MachineMetrics that uses data to show where your operations stand before implementing new technology. In order to accurately know the impact of new technology on your operations, you must first know where your operations stand before implementing and making improvements. Baselining Utilization plays an active role in your success in reaching and measuring ROI as well as revealing hidden capacity.
Key Facts about Baselining
- Baselining should be done without your factory floor personnel knowing
- Baselining lasts approx 30 days
- Baselining is done before any tablets are installed at the machines
- No corrective actions should be taken during the baselining process
The Baselining Process
- Internal Baselining Kick-Off Meeting
During this meeting, you and your team discuss and develop an expectation for what you consider to be Utilization for each individual machine. These expectations will be used to compare to the real, collected data at the end of the Baselining process. - Check for Good Machine Data
During this part of Baselining, you will walk the factory floor and confirm each machine is reporting correctly. This includes using the timeline to confirm correct part counting as well as the dashboards to confirm machine operating status is correct. - Evaluate the Data
After you confirm good machine data and data is flowing, you can start to monitor the data using various reports. After a period of data collection, you will work with your team to compare the data to the expectations you outlined in the internal Baselining Kick-Off meeting. Remember, evaluating the data does not include corrective action. That comes next. - Create an Improvement Plan
This is when you will start to map out basic and advanced level adjustments that can be made to realize immediate value.
