Introduction
MachineMetrics can read data from HEIDENHAIN iTNC 530 and 640 controls. This article will guide you through configuring the iTNC for data collection.
Topics covered in this article:
Networking:
Option 18 Requirements
It is necessary to install Option 18 on a TNC 640, but not on an iTNC 530.
Networking: Firewall Settings
During the process of connecting your machine, you may need to access the network settings. To do this on the CNC, switch to Programming and Editing mode and press the MOD key. Then, enter the password NET123. The TNC will display the network configuration screen, showing any assigned IP address. Assign a static address to be used by the edge device that communicates with the machine.
For more details on modifying these settings, refer to your User's Manual.
To establish a connection with a HEIDENHAIN control behind a firewall, ensure TCP port 19000 is open for access on the machine side.
Networking: Machine Security Settings
Connecting to the HEIDENHAIN CNC over Ethernet could potentially trigger safety-critical functions remotely without the operator's knowledge. It's best to effectively control and restrict access.
Limit external access to the controls to specified computers. To activate computer-specific access control, the machine tool builder should input the configuration datum CfgAccessCtrl in the System->Network section.
Once enabled, you can edit the list of authorized clients in the MOD settings dialog under Machine settings -> External access.
Alternatively, machine operators can add REMOTE.PERMISSION in the TNC:\TNC.SYS file, listing names or IP addresses of authorized computers. This list should include the MachineMetrics edge device's IP address at minimum.
If an unauthorized client attempts to connect, the control will display a confirmation dialog.
Note: If a control detects that an unauthorized client is attempting to establish a connection, the control will display a corresponding confirmation dialog.
Note: External access can be entirely disabled. A soft key for this is available in the MOD operating mode, visible only if REMOTE.LOCKSOFTKEYVISIBLE=YES is set in the OEM.SYS file.
Next Steps
Once you have connected it is now time to configure your machine, your next step is to Configure a Heidenhain Connector to finalize data collection and then to add your machine to your MachineMetrics Account.
Note that if your machine is controlled through automation, there is a potential for interference with the MachineMetrics connector. Contact support for best-practice guidance how to configure the connector.
To connect to either an iTNC 530 or TNC 640, choose the Heidenhain data collection method:
