If you plan to connect a sensor device using the MachineMetrics Digital I/O Board with Ethernet (Labjack), you will first need to download the device’s configuration software. The configuration software will allow you to assign an IP address to your I/O Board (Labjack).
Here is a video overview on how to acquire the configuration software and assign an IP address to your Digital I/0 Board:
Downloading T4 Configuration Software:
1.) First, plug the USB cable into your I/O board, and plug the other end into your computer using either a USB port or a USB adapter.
2.) Open a Web browser, and type in the address labjack.com/support/software
3.) Scroll down the page until you see the section called “Labjack Installer Downloads”. You will see a bulleted list of links. Click on the first link: “LJM - T7, T4, Digit”.
4.) On the next page, scroll down and click on the orange button under the ‘release’ section.
5.) Download the release under ‘Windows’ if you are currently using a PC, or Download under ‘macOS’, if you are currently on an Apple computer.
6.) Once the release has fully downloaded, click on the download to open it.
1.) The Labjack window will open, which states “Welcome to the Labjack Setup Wizard” Click next.
2.) The next window will ask you to choose an install location. The destination folder will default to your program files folder. If this is where you would like the setup to download, Click next.
3.) On the next screen, click the install button.
4.) Once installation is complete, a window will appear prompting you to accept the National Instruments Software License Agreement. Confirm that you accept the license agreement, and then hit ‘Next.’
5.) You will again be prompted to select a destination folder. Select a folder where you want the application to be installed and click ‘next'.
6.) The next window you see will state “NI LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 7.1 has been successfully installed.
7.) Click the ‘Finish’ button.
8.) Once the Labjack Setup window reads “installation complete” hit ‘next’.
9.) The final Labjack Setup window will state “Labjack has been installed on your computer.” Click the ‘finish’ button.
Configuring Your Digital I/O:
1.) Locate the new ‘LabJack’ folder within your program files - or whatever location at which you chose to save.
2.) Click through to the ‘applications’ folder followed by the ‘Kipling’ folder.
3.) Finally, click on the ‘Kipling’ application.
4.) Hit ‘refresh’ and kipling will graphically display all of the found and compatible devices.
5.) Press the green ‘USB’ button to connect to the Digital I/O board via USB. Once the green button turns red and says ‘disconnect,’ this means you are connected.
6.) In the right hand sidebar, click ‘device info.’
7.) If you click into the ‘general’ tab, you can rename your Digital I/O board. We recommend you rename your device to the same name as the machine on which you intend to install it.
8.) Next, click on the network settings. Under ‘configure,’ Click on ‘Use DHCP’ and reset the configuration setting to ‘manual.’
9.) Your IT manager should have opened up a static IP for this device. Enter that Static IP here.
10.) The Subnet, Gateway, DNS and Alt-DNS setting should remain in their default settings.
11.) Click ‘apply.’
12.) You can now safely exit Kipling and unplug your Digital I/O board.
Your MachineMetrics Digital I/O board will now be available to our gateway. Once you have finished integrating your I/O board and sensor into your machine, reach out to your CSM and alert them that you would like to add a data source for your machine.
You customer success manager will need the following information:
- What sensor you connected (Current Transducer, Accelerometer, Etc.)
- What inputs you used on the Digital I/O board (AIN 0/ AIN 1/ Etc.)
- What type of data you are planning to track (Amperage, Vibration, Etc.)
