Setting Up Your Tablet with MachineMetrics Progressive Web App (PWA)

Introduction

The Progressive Web App (PWA) is an alternate method to provision that allows more flexibility in the use of the tablets on the shop floor and can also work with existing Mobile Device Management (MDM) software that your team may already be using to manage devices.

First Steps: Preparing you Device

1. If your tablet was previously provisioned using the article How to Provision Tablets Using a QR Code Perform a Factory Data Reset: to reset your tablet to its factory settings to ensure a clean installation environment. This can usually be found in your tablet's settings under 'Backup & reset' or 'System' depending on the device model. This will have your team need to go through the device setup outside of the Kiosk Management system. 
2. Access MachineMetrics: Open the Google Chrome browser and navigate to https://operator.machinemetrics.com. You will be automatically redirected to the login page.
3. Authorize Device: On the redirect page, select 'Authorize Device' to give necessary permissions for the MachineMetrics application.
4. Enter Code: Visit https://app.machinemetrics.com/app/tablet in your browser and enter your provided 4-character code to link your device with your MachineMetrics account.

Shortcut Setup for Android Devices

1. Add to Home Screen: Once you are directed back to the Operator Dashboard (OpDash), tap the triple dot menu in the top right corner and select 'Add Page to Home Screen'.
2. Activate WakeLock: Return to your device's home screen, locate the new MachineMetrics app icon, and open it. Interact with the app (click or tap within it) at least once to activate WakeLock, which keeps your device's screen awake.

Shortcut Setup for Windows Devices

1. Create a Shortcut: In Chrome, once redirected back to OpDash, click the triple dot menu in the top right corner and navigate to 'More Tools' -> 'Create Shortcut'.
2. Configure Shortcut: If your browser version allows, select 'Open as Window' when creating the shortcut. Otherwise, locate the shortcut file, right-click to edit it, and add "-kiosk" to the end of the "Target" field for a fullscreen experience.
   
3. Finalize Setup: Open the new shortcut to launch the MachineMetrics app, and consider pinning it to your taskbar for easy access.
